Preventive Medicine | |
|
Preventive Medicine is the practice of medicine which attempts to reduce the harmful effects of aging. Successful preventive medicine has shown to improve a person's longevity and quality of life. Years of clinical and scientific research have defined the aging process, allowing patients to be proactive when it comes to aging in a healthful manner. The Wellness Center offers several useful approaches which modulate the aging process. Some of these are:

| Vitamin and Nutritional Counseling | ||
We have all been advised at one time or another to "eat properly" in order to maximize our longevity. Chances are, we have also been told to "take a vitamin" every day. While these requests make sense, they are often confusing and unclear. Dr. Dornfeld makes better sense of these hallmarks. Consultations with patients clarify specific dietary needs based on age, health, lifestyle and other factors. This creates an attainable regimen that is comfortable and simple for patients to follow. This results in the prevention and reversal of many symptoms caused by Angina , Candida, Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, chronic lung disease, Diabetes, , Irritable Bowel Syndrome, and Lyme Disease. |
||
| Intestinal Permeability Assessment | ||
A major concern with proper nutrition is to determine the degree of dietary absorption in the gastrointestinal tract. Absorption is altered by several factors, including inflammation and enzyme system dysfunction. Testing for these parameters helps tailor a nutritional and functional program which improves absorption of essential nutrients. |
||
| Natural Hormone Replacement | ||
As women reach menopausal age, they are often affected by negative symptoms like hot flashes, irregular menstrual cycles, loss of libido, and vaginal dryness. Aging men frequently experience symptoms including loss of libido and erectile dysfunction. Dr. Dornfeld offers hormone testing and natural treatments for the symptoms of perimenopause, menopause, and impotence. The Wellness Center provides natural hormone replacement, a treatment which utilizes bioidentical hormones. Bioidentical hormones are easier for the body to recognize with the least amount of side effects. |
||
| Neuroendocrine Function Assessment | ||
The central nervous system, comprised of the brain and spinal cord, regulates the body's hormonal system. The messengers of the central nervous system are molecules called neurotransmitters. These neurotransmitters interrelate with one another to impact on the function of the nervous system. Frequently, neurotransmitters fall out of proper balance due to insufficient supplementation and nutritional support. This leads to hormonal imbalances, and often results in constitutional symptoms such as anxiety, depression, , headaches, insomnia, and weight gain. Dr. Dornfeld offers testing which assesses the level of neutroceutic supplementation required to maintain proper neurotransmitter balance. |

| Reiki | ||
Reiki, Which means “universal life force” energy, is a natural form of healing, which originated in Japan over 2500 years ago. The Reiki System, a gentle “laying-on” of hands technique, focuses on imbalances and blockages in the human energy system. Considered a form of holistic healing, Reiki addresses the mind-body connection and attends to the physical and emotional well-being of a person. Current medical research suggests that there is an energy field that flows through and surrounds the body. When there is a disruption or imbalance in the flow of energy in the body, it can manifest in either physical or emotional illness. Reiki continues to be adopted by more hospitals and other clinical settings and is being used as an adjunct to conventional western medical treatment by many health organizations, physicians, chiropractors and psychotherapists. Reiki is a complimentary treatment and not a substitute for appropriate medical or emotional treatment. The benefits of Reiki are being validated by research being done at such prestigious hospitals as Columbia Medical Center. Reiki therapy is safe and non-invasive. It is used in hospices, nursing homes, emergency rooms, organ transplant care units, pediatric, neonatal and OB/GYN units. Reiki can also be a helpful addition to conventional therapy for cancer and HIV/AIDS patients. Reiki can help: Reduce Stress and tension, Heal the cause of a condition, Symptomatic relief from pain, Accelerate healing, Support cancer patients through chemo, Ease anxiety, Comfort the terminally ill, In conjunction with psychotherapy to enhance personal growth, Clean the body of accumulated toxins, Help to release anger and fear, Comforting and strengthening the elderly, Bring the body into harmony by removing physical and emotional blockages, Help those near death to pass over in a more peaceful way. | Hypnosis | ||
Have you tried time and again to lose weight, quit smoking, or stop biting your nails, only to find yourself caving in after only a few days or weeks? Where does your motivation go? Will power is not intended to work for the long haul and change does not happen on the conscious level. When emotion and reason are in conflict, emotion usually wins out. Typically, you do what feels good and what feels familiar. All habits, behaviors and beliefs are stored in the subconscious mind and this is what you must access and influence if you are to have lasting change. Hypnosis is the vehicle that allows you to enter the subconscious and make helpful suggestions, that when accepted, results in a permanent change. Everyone who has an imagination and the ability to focus can be hypnotized. Hypnosis is not something done to you, but with you. Moreover, when you combine hypnosis with a strong desire and commitment, you can reach any goal. A few myths associated with hypnosis are:
